First Friday Hackathon started as a monthly creative gathering where participants were given 4 hours of freedom to team with whoever they want, and work on whatever they want. The only rules were that:
All work must be done during the four hour hackathon
Everyone must present what they made
Everyone that presents gets to vote on the winner
We’re bringing back the best of FFH, while adjusting the format in ways that hopefully make it even more fun, more of an even playing field, and better at helping everyone flex their creative muscles. So here are the new rules:
Rule 1: No spectators allowed. If you show up, you must make something and present it.
Rule 2: Every participant must answer these three items before we start:
Define a broad project category
Name a feature that must be incorporated
Identify a niche user type
Rule 3: Every participant draws one each from category, feature, and user type
Rule 4: Participants can choose work solo or in teams
Rule 5: Once the team is defined, each team must choose its project category, feature to be incorporated, and user type from the answers that have been drawn by its members
Rule 6: Each team must stop work at 9:30pm to present
Rule 7: Every participant votes for the winning project
Show up at 5 to find out what your project is and form teams if you want to collaborate before everyone starts work at 5:30.
